According to Deadline, 26-year-old Emily VanCamp, star of ABC's Revenge, will take the female lead role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

VanCamp’s previous credits include Everwood and Brothers & Sisters, joins a cast that includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Anthony Mackie as the Falcon, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola and Frank Grillo as Crossbones. Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4, 2014.

VanCamp's role has yet to be clarified, but signs point toward Sharon Carter, Steve Roger’s long-time love interest. Sharon is the niece of Peggy Carter, played by Hayley Atwell in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger.

First introduced in 1966's Tales of Suspense #75, Sharon Carter held a prominent role throughout Ed Brubaker's eight-year run on Captain America, which included the "Winter Soldier" story on which the sequel is supposedly based.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled for release on April 4, 2014. In addition to returning star Chris Evans, the cast will include Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Anthony Mackie as the Falcon, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Toby Jones as Arnim Zola and Frank Grillo as Crossbones.
