Both the Titans and Teen Titans have specials this month, reboots of the teams in conjunction with the events detailed in No Justice. The Titans Special is the first of these, and the more “traditional” of the two.
Nightwing is summoned by the big three heroes, and invited to form a team of young heroes as a branch of the Justice League, even operating out of their new headquarters. Of course Nightwing accepts, and the remainder of the special has him recruit the new line-up.
For me, personally, the most bizarre page of the story has the Justice League show a group of heroes that they would like Nightwing to choose from. I was glad to see some, like Amethyst, as a reminder that they are still around in this most recent universe, but was really taken aback by the presence of Ambush Bug. The Justice League want Ambush Bug in the Titans? Really? Was that, like, a test to see if Nightwing had gone insane?
Anyway, Dick has his own list, so the League’s options are disregarded.
Not much point in being coy about the line up. Donna Troy is back, and Nightwing brings Raven and Beast Boy up from the Teen Titans. Beast Boy is now suffering from some uncontrollable changes. Other young people across the world are being similarly affected, and Dick’s mandate is to deal with them.
Natasha Irons gets recruited, and I like that decision. She has proven herself a strong character over the years, and will add some interesting dynamics to the team.
I will mention that Brother Blood gets a re-introduction, and will be the major villain the team will have to deal with shortly, but there is one other surprise addition to the group that I will leave unmentioned. An excellent choice, both in terms of the character themself, and also how they wind up part of the team.
A good reboot, promising an enjoyable run for the series.
