The Unexpected continues to defy my expectations. And yet again, I have to make the comment that only by continuing to do the unexpected does this book merit the title The Unexpected.
Ok, let’s see if I can write the rest of this review without using that word again.
The main storyline plays out the big battle between Hawkman, Neon and Firebrand, as they face off with Onimarr Synn for control of the new metal. For the last few issues the guest stars only appeared for one part of the tale, but Hawkman seems to be sticking around. Does this mean he will be a permanent feature of the book now? I have no idea, and I absolutely refuse to look ahead at the postings for the upcoming issues. I am truly enjoying not knowing exactly where this book will go.
Towards the end of the issue we get the return of a very good villain, one I am happy to see back. And that’s all I will say about that.
What completely sold this issue for me was the use of the phrase “To Be Continued.” I hope that sentence really puzzled those who just read it. I also refuse to explain what I am talking about, so as not to spoil the fun for any of you.
Because this book is fun. It’s a bit like Space Mountain. A roller coaster ride in the dark, where one has no idea what direction the car will go in next.
