Ok, I had no idea what to expected from the first issue of The Unexpected, but after reading it figured that the series was likely going to feature Firebrand. Firebrand does return in the second issue, but the focus is squarely on Neon the Unknown, the only survivor of the team introduced in the debut issue.
So, good on ya, Nord and Orlando, for keeping me surprised.

I enjoyed this issue even more than the first. Neon is a tortured soul, and as Firebrand, and the reader, learns more about him and his now-deceased partners, we get a firmer grasp on where this book is likely to be going.

There is no doubt that this will tie-in, sooner or later, to Hawkman. Onimarr Synn is being set up as the major villain. Though in this issue Firebrand and Neon have to deal with Lava Lamp Lady. That’s not her actual name, but I enjoyed it when Firebrand called her that.

Another familiar character, for longtime DC readers, makes a cameo as the issue goes on, and I am now thinking that she will get her story told in the next issue. Bit by bit they seem to be creating a team book here.

And with that in mind, will this team turn out to be some new form of Freedom Fighters? Earlier incarnations of both Firebrand and Neon were members of that team, at one time or another, having originally belonged to Quality Comics.

Still not sure where the book is going, and still not bothered by that in the slightest. Which is basically the best I could wish for from a series called The Unexpected.
