I am very pleased that The Immortal Men 2 gave me much of what I was left wanting after reading issue 1. The members of the team are clearly named, given distinctive backgrounds and traits that suit their intriguing appearances. Mention is made of the larger DC Universe, and how the group fits into it, and why it doesn’t quite fit in with the main super teams. Immortal Man himself plays a small role as well.
All this comes fast, as poor Caden is swept along in a chaotic series of events. It’s effective, builds sympathy for the kid, and sets him solidly into the milieu that the creative team is establishing.
The first issue showed potential, but easily could have gone either way. This follow up makes me glad that I had expectations for the book, and makes me feel certain that I will enjoy where it goes.
I still kind of wish a bit more was explained, but I have no worries about that. We are learning about the mysterious teams of immortals just as Caden is, and about the dire situation they are in.
While not every member of the team fascinates me, Ghost Fist and Reload have captured my attention, and the Infinite Woman looks to be a strong villain for them to face.
It’s not always easy to come up with a good second issue. I am very glad that this book succeeded at the challenge.
