It’s girlpower central in the latest issue of Superwoman, as Lana Lang, Natasha Irons, Traci 13 and Maxima all work together against Midnight. But is defeating her really the best thing to do?

Perkins has picked up the thread of Superwoman being a very introspective book. Lana Lang spends more time thinking about her actions, considering her decisions and life choices, that possibly any other super hero I have ever read about.

I suppose that can be a good thing. Not necessarily the most exciting thing, but in a good writer’s hands we can learn a lot about a character through the concerns they have. And it’s not like Perkins falls into the deadly “tell instead of show” trap. Every time Lana ponders something, it does get followed up with action.

Perhaps that feature, as well as the way Lana tends to operate with a team supporting her, is what Perkins is trying to emphasize in this book. I have had that thought before, and this issue backs me up.

I’ve waxed and waned in my feelings about this series since Perkins took the reins. This would be one of the issues I am more excited about, and intrigued as to where the next one will go. I am still not as taken with the book as I was under Jimenez, but I’m also not wondering if it is even worth reading. It is.
