Supergirl #30 Review

Kevin Maguire returns for a big climactic battle in the latest issue of Supergirl, as Kara faces off with Z’ndr’s evil mother.

Plot-wise, this makes things neatly come full circle, and by the end Supergirl winds up wielding Rogol Zaar’s deadly axe. Although I did enjoy the fill-in art, it’s great to see Maguire on this huge fight, especially the panels full of shards.

That probably didn’t make a lot of sense, but it will once you’ve read the issue.

Following this, Supergirl and Superman are going to have a crossover, bringing the long storyline to its conclusion. I believe I said this when reviewing the previous issue, but Andreyko has handled this book exceptionally well during his tenure.

While the overall storyline maintained the Rogol Zaar plot, Supergirl has been given a chance to get into some fun outer space team ups, and spend some time with Krypto as well. A new romance, even if it hasn’t gone very well, was a nice addition to the mix. There has been an effective balance between the longer story, and the smaller tales making it up. A good usage of the Green Lantern Corps and Omega Men. And we've been able to see Supergirl out of her element for an extended period of time.

Things are bound to change once the storyline ends, but I suspect this period of the book will remain a highlight of the run for many years to come.
