Supergirl 25 is a special, double-sized issue, and contains three stories.
The first of these follows up on the previous issue, with Supergirl and Z’ndr Kol in the ruins of Krypton. It’s a curious little tale, which seems to raise more questions about Rogol Zaar than it answers. Supergirl does discover a connection between the world killer and her own lost family, but it was the surprising cameo on the last page, of a villain not seen in a very long time, that grabbed my interest the most.
The second story gives the spotlight to Z’nder Kol. For a Coluan, he is about as different from Brainiac 5 as one can get. Still, it’s hard not to be charmed by him. It’s the green skin. Anyway, we get to see Kol barging through an adventure like a bull in a china shop, a story set before he meets Supergirl, and basically giving his backstory.
The last story is set on Earth, and has Supergirl back with her “parents.” Ice guest stars, as this is mildly a Christmas tale, and deals with a toy Supergirl once owned on Krypton. It’s less saccharine than most Christmas tales, so I guess I have to give it a thumbs up.
Three decent enough stories. But somehow I feel I ought to have liked this issue more. The brevity of the first tale was probably what pulled this down in my eyes. I needed more revelation and/or explanation.
