The Resurrection of Ra’s Al Ghul continues as Robin struggles with his own demons, Batman comes back to life, and Damien’s still a pain in the tuchis.
In Robin #169, Robin reconsiders Ra’s Al Ghul’s offer of the Lazarus Pit. After all, the Lazarus Pits can resurrect the dead, and Robin’s father died a mere few years back. Writer Peter Milligan’s pacing is very effective, and the scenes transition as smoothly as green tea mixes with coke.* He doesn’t give the characters distinct voices, though, which should be a priority. Ra’s Al Ghul and company usually have the pretentious vocabularies of second-rate Henry James impersonators, and that’s part of the fun.
The art is not great, but not terrible, either. It’s middling, though David Baldeon is not the only middling penciller in comics. There are plenty of others. The major problem is that Baldeon’s style looks too much like a Disney animated movie to depict a tale of darkness and temptation. With a different storyline, his art would likely perform better.
Worth the money? If you’re really, really invested in the storyline, yes. Casual fans, stay away.
