In NEW MUTANTS #9, the art is improved over #8's slight debacle. The story picks up the pace and seems as if it might turn out to be something fun to read. There is an air of tragedy to this tale of the New Mutants seeking a mutant, who through no fault of her own, may turn out to be a danger to mutant and humankind alike.

Still, despite improvements, the art still looks like amateurish Humberto Ramos, but fortunately Carlo Barberi's storytelling instincts are solid. Otherwise, some fan would likely contact the Better Business Bureau or some consumer advocacy group about the quality of said allegedly professionally produced goods.

[DRECK, DULL, READABLE, PRETTY GOOD, EXCELLENT]
