Justice League Odyssey #3 Review

Phillipe Briones does some very nice art on the latest issue of Justice League Odyssey, while Williamson expands the story a bit.

We are still enmeshed in the mysteries of the Ghost Sector, and meet a couple of new characters along the way: a new villain, and a stowaway on the ship. Cyborg and Starfire continue to be the core of this adventure, though Azrael and Green Lantern get some good scenes.

This all feels a bit more like a miniseries than an ongoing one right now, though I suppose that has a lot to do with the fact that we are only three issues in, and everything is centred around one plot. Still, even if this were just a miniseries, I would be enjoying it a lot.

It’s a bit difficult to really discuss the storyline, as so much is either up in the air, or has not yet been explained. Certainly the revelation on the last page is a real mind blower.

And Williamson is doing a great job at parcelling out just enough information to keep the reader mystified and tantalyzed at the same time.

I also enjoyed the opening flashback scene, allowing us to learn a bit more about how and why the heroes went off into space in the first place.

The plot is tight, the characterization effective, and the art is really engaging. I have high expectations for this series now that we are three issues in, higher than I had before it began.
