Justice League Dark #3 Review

The first storyline comes to a conclusion in Justice League Dark 3, and this book really looks like a winner.

Zatanna, Wonder Woman, John Constantine and Swamp Thing all get great scenes, and the villain, the Upside Down Man, is about as creepy as he could be.

The art is superb, very effective and powerful.

There is, quite seriously, nothing I could possibly complain about, or want more from, in this issue.

Now true, I have long been a fan of DC’s horror characters, and I have wanted them to be in a team for many years. So in a way, I am exactly the audience this book is meant to appeal to. But I have been disappointed in the past. The last version of Justice League Dark disappointed me, and I am not even going to touch Black Baptism.

Putting Wonder Woman in the group was a very wise decision. Not only does it make the book feel more legitimately Justice League, her vast power, matched with her lack of familiarity with the magical side of the DC universe, puts her in the intriguing position of being an old hand and a newbie at the same time.

Though the story does reach a resolution, there is a lot of groundwork that has been laid in these first three issues, an awful lot to explore and develop. I really hope this book is enough of a success to see the concepts get mined to their fullest extent.
