Green Arrow #8 sees the return of Oliver Queen to a remote island, as well as artist Otto Schmidt. As I’ve said before, I enjoy Schmidt’s work a great deal. I was hoping his departure from the book was temporary. Certainly, these artists carrying the laod of bi-weekly titles are entitled to a break every now and then.

Ollie, not so much. He can’t seem to catch a break, having washed up on a remote island following the destruction of the Ninth Circle's floating vault in Green Arrow #5. Also on the island is Black Canary, who joins him in what is one part test for survival and one part day at the beach. I can think of worse people to be marooned with.

However, like something out of a Jules Verne tale, the island is not all that it appears. Unbeknownst to GA and BC, Diggle has also made his way to shore, but is soon face to face with – ah, but that would be telling, and I don’t do spoilers. You’ll just have to read it for yourself.

While this first chapter of the latest story arc isn’t exactly brimming with action, there is a shout-out for long-time Green arrow fans. It reinforces that despite the evolution of a character, some things never change. It pleases me to see someone recognize there is no need to fix something not broken.

In fairness, when Benjamin Percy was announced as the writer on Green Arrow, I had my doubts. And I am pleased to say I have been proven wrong. It’s become on of my favorite Rebirth titles.
