After the bizarre introduction of the Alpha Lanterns comes the first signs of even more new varieties of Lanterns and the unveiling of a deadly new law for the Green Lantern Corps.

This is a powerful issue all throughout with one shocking revelation after another. There is a lack of action in this issue but the pacing and intensity of the story make it even more suspenseful than any slugfest or gunbattle. There are many things going on with Alpha Lanterns, Lost Lanterns and new Lanterns coming out of the woodwork but all the subplots are clearly linked and all the plotlines are building up to one thing.

The art is also surprisingly effective. McKone has always been a good illustrator but his art has always lacked emotion. But this time, the fury of Laira, the scheming of the Controllers and the disquiet of Hal Jordan are all dramatically obvious.

This story may be a moving a tad too fast but in this age of decompressed storytelling, that is not a bad thing. Four and a half stars out of five.
