Earth 2 Society #20 Review

First off, I need to say that I have loved Earth 2 and Earth 2 Society all the way through. Earth 2 was one of the better books to emerge from the New 52, and Earth 2 Society was a dark and heavily tragic continuation of the concept.
But Earth 2 Society has been ending now for a while. Quite a while. And I am really feeling the need for some resolution. I’m just not getting that.

This issue is action packed, as the Ultra-Humanite sends out the Sandmen, who look more terrifying than every before, after the remaining heroes. Hawkgirl, Power Girl, Val-Zod, Red Tornado, Fury and the Flash are not lacking excellent moments during the fights, and it is all illustrated extremely well.

We also get more development on the underground side of the line up, with Batman and son, the Huntress and Steel plotting to move against the Ultra-Humanite while he is distracted by the topside battle.

But none of this is really much different than the situation in the previous issue. Which wasn’t hugely different than the situation just before that.

Yes, it is true that each issue has had some degree of revelation. But I was not surprised for an instant to find out the Ultra-Humanite was the big villain of the story, nor did the identity of the Ultra-Humanite’s “secret weapon” at the end of this issue come as a shocker, either.

I enjoyed every single page of this story. But at the same time, I found it lacking. I’m ready for the grand finale. Bring it on!
