Doom Patrol #10 Review

It’s so hard to write a review of Doom Patrol. I love what Gerard Way is doing with this book. It’s fun and crazy, with all the weirdness that the Doom Patrol requires. But every time I sit down to review an issue of this book I am left spouting superlatives, and trying to avoid spoiling the insane plots.

So here I go, once again delving into the wondrous mania of another issue, and trying to find intelligent words to express my delight.

The Brotherhood of Nada runs wild in this issue, but the Reynolds family give the emotional core to the tale that keeps it on track. There is some reality shifting, some unexpected magic, some science talk by the Chief, and a set-up for the return of Rita Farr.

But the strangest thing in this bastion of strangeness proves to be a baby that will not exist. I am not even going to try to explain that one to you. Read it and find out.

Flex Mentallo gets my favourite lines in the issue. Way is turning him into a very funny character, a bit different from how Morrison wrote him, but still fitting very much into the idealized hero format.

If I had to pick out something that disappointed me in this issue it would be that Mr Nobody doesn’t get as much play as I had expected he would. But that is such a minor quibble. It’s not like I could find a single panel in this story that would have been better served with Mr Nobody.

So just pick up the damn issue. You will be carried away into loving madness.
