Daredevil # 104

Daredevil is still on the trace of the elusive Mr. Fear who fancies himself as the new ruler of New York’s underworld. But no matter how hard Daredevil tries to catch up to his nemesis, the latter is always one step forward. And this time, Mr. Fear dictates that Milla, Daredevil’s wife should go to jail again. Can Daredevil stop his wife from committing another gruesome murder or is there nothing left to do but let her rot in jail?
Brubaker is tiding up several plot point which he introduced earlier in his run to make for a big finale for Daredevil versus Mr. Fear. It works well so far, as it ties with so many elements from Daredevil’s recent publishing history. However, there are a few plot inconsistencies, such as the time it took for Daredevil to locate Lily Lucca in his home. This issue ties in with the Hood storyline which appears in other Marvel comic books these days and promises for a showdown between the two master villains next issue. As usual little happened in the story, but it was just enough to make this crime noir serial worth picking up next month.
The two art teams on the book work quite well as the slight style differences are not noticeable at first glance. In this sense, all the artists involve continue to work well with the Brubaker and do not try to showcase their work instead of telling the story. It’s a fine team that understands that readers need consistency. Lark’s work, in particular continues to look like Lee Weeks with stronger backgrounds which enhance the dark mood of the story. Colourist Matt Hollingsworth’s work is moody and surrounds every main character with background colours that brings them forward, while not be too contrasted. It looks quite good.
