Inspired from a comic book both story-wise and art-wise, this is the story Chingaso, and evil clown who has to get his revenge from another clown. In Clown City, the population fears the sadistic clowns who disguise themselves as public amusers only to murder people at will. This last fight will decide who will be the top clown in town.

An offbeat story with a simple plot, this is not the first time that a story has been written about a murderous clown. But this one takes things to their logical extension by creating an entire universe around them. The only violent counterpart to the clowns is a dominatrix and her mob of slaves. I guess somewhere in this tale, there is an allegory for the current state of our society as seen through the cynical eyes of the director who also created the comic book. I think it was just a chance to indulge in every known excesses and clichés.

The cinematography is surprisingly good, although produced on a short budget. The colours are vivid and the fights well staged. The one problem was the slow pace which unlike what many budding directors think, does not reinforce the plot. It just drags it. Pacing a film is like playing music. Tempo and purposeful pauses and breaks are what makes the absence of contents and silence effective. But beyond a certain point, it becomes boring.

6/10
