Ok, I had a few qualms about the first issue of Justice League. And though I have to admit that I am still not certain about the unfolding storyline, there was more than enough in this second issue to make me very happy with this new series.
Awkwardly, a lot of what I liked the best I do not want to spoil by talking about. So let’s just say that there is more to Luthor than meets the eye, and the development of the villains’ plans are going to make things interesting indeed for the heroes. And, I suppose I should add, Luthor is not the only villain put to good use in this issue. Croc goes through some changes, and Sinestro is given an excellent speech.
On the hero side, I very much enjoyed the re-interpretation of a team-up, which winds up taking place in this issue. Once again, I just don’t want to spoil the surprise, but it’s clever, and a new take on a standard idea.
The existence of the other new Leagues is slightly referenced, enough that it is clear that there will be some overlap between the books, and I suppose between the League and the Titans as well, given the events of the Titans Special. That takes co-ordinating to pull off effectively, but the payouts can be great when it works.
And, as I said, while the first issue left me with doubts, this second issue has pushed those to the side. I like to be able to have fun reading Justice League. This time around, I really did.
